Senior Paralegal(s) – Estate Planning

We are looking for experienced senior level Paralegal(s) to support one or more attorneys who practice in the areas of estate planning, probate, trust administration, tax planning, and guardianships/conservatorships.

Job responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Assist attorneys in preparation of legal documents related to estate planning, estate administration (probate and Trust administration), guardianships and conservatorships
  • Conduct legal research to support attorneys in case preparation
  • Assist with preparations of legal arguments, motions and client correspondence
  • Draft, finalize, and electronically file or coordinate with other team members to e-file court documents, including petitions, notices, judgments, orders, related pleadings, and other court documents
  • Maintain and organize case files, including documents, data and other records
  • Manage client matters to prepare all necessary documents to meet all deadlines
  • Communicate with clients, courts, and other parties involved in cases to gather necessary information and provide updates to all relevant parties
  • Coordinate and schedule client meetings and appointments
  • Other tasks, as assigned

The ideal candidate will have:

  • 5-7+ years of experience as a Senior level paralegal
  • Experience with timekeeping and tracking and billing time
  • Willingness to do anything, no job below them (i.e. filing, electronic filing, taking dictation, reviewing correspondence carefully, calendaring)
  • An affinity for organization and creating order and stability for changing priorities
  • Bachelor’s degree and/or Paralegal Certification is preferred;
  • Professionalism in communication, both verbal and written, excellent communication and grammar skills;
  • Thoroughness in work: excellent attention to detail and follow through is required for success;
  • A propensity for electronic communication and electronic document management;
  • An ability to work well and communicate with different types of people, both internally and externally (clients, staff, and attorneys);
  • Knowledge of Federal, Oregon, and Washington Estate tax exemptions; 706 requirements and preparation of the same; gift tax returns, and various types of agreements and contracts;
  • Possess excellent grammar, spelling, and proofreading abilities. Effectively prioritize tasks and manage time;
  • Exercise good judgment and pay exceptional attention to detail;
  • Demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • Ability to critically analyze and problem solve legal and technological issues;
  • Skilled in Word formatting, Adobe, PowerPoint, Excel, redline/track changes, styles, and cross-referencing within documents;
  • Willingness to take on tough assignments and be resourceful;
  • An ability and experience keeping their attorney(s) organized, including docketing, drafting, etc.; and
  • A highly organized working process, attentiveness to detail, be thorough in work activities, yet process information quickly

Compensation:

  • Hourly, non-exempt (eligible for OT); consistent with Firm’s compensation structure
  • Full time Paralegals receive full benefits package, including PTO, 10 paid holidays, 401k, and other benefits

Probate & Civil Litigation Attorney

Buckley Law is expanding our Probate and Civil litigation department and looking for experienced attorneys to join our team. Successful candidates include an experienced senior associate who can manage complex litigation projects independently and communicate directly with clients. An established book of business is helpful, but not necessary.

Responsibilities include:

  • Detail oriented, self-starter litigation associate attorney with at least 2 – 5 years’ experience and active Oregon bar license in good standing. Duties (with a progressive increase in responsibilities and independence with partner support and leadership;
  • Represent clients in civil and probate court in matters involving financial elder abuse and breach of fiduciary duty claims, trust and will contests, elder abuse restraining orders, and in the appointment and removal of fiduciaries in probate, trust, and protective proceedings;
  • Assist in all phases of litigation, including taking and defending depositions, negotiating settlements, attending mediations, preparing for trial (interview witnesses, identify and prepare potential exhibits, draft direct and cross examination questions), and appearing in court (status checks, ex parte, arguing motions, and trial);
  • Draft pleadings and documents (memoranda; demand letters; pleadings including petitions, complaints, motions, declarations, judgments, notices, proofs of service; RFP’s, RFA’s, and responses; trust and estate accountings; settlement agreements);
  • Communicate with clients to provide legal advice, discuss case strategy, facilitate client decision-making, and provide prompt and regular case updates;
  • Communicate with opposing counsel, including conferrals and settlement negotiations;
  • Participate in the development and implementation of case strategy;
  • Conduct legal research and analysis;
  • Gather, review, analyze, and produce discovery

Preferred Skills:

  • Ability to work under pressure and prioritize multiple, competing tasks;
  • Ability to confidently guide clients and interact with opposing counsel in a poised, assertive manner;
  • Clear and concise legal writing with the ability to produce cohesive and polished drafts that demonstrate an understanding of the facts and include the appropriate legal analysis;
  • Efficiently use and navigate Microsoft Office, Outlook, Coyote, NetDocs, ShareFile;
  • Issue spot throughout the life of a case;
  • Understanding of and ability to identify applicable SLR’s, UTCR’s, statutes, and ORCP
  • Prior experience with direct client contact and court appearances (e.g., sitting second-chair in trial or presenting oral argument) preferred, but not required to have been in this practice area previously;
  • Independent desire to learn new material through CLE’s, researching statutes and case law, and observing other attorneys

Legal Assistant – Business & Collections Law

  • Experience working with Business Transactions helpful
  • Commercial/business litigation experience in Oregon and Washington state and federal courts
  • Associate’s degree and/or Paralegal Certification is preferred
  • Professionalism in communication, both verbal and written; excellent communication and grammar skills
  • Willingness to troubleshoot and contact court clerks, corporation division staff, and other paralegals, to ask questions and find solutions
  • A propensity for electronic communication and electronic document management
  • An ability to prioritize and juggle multiple, concurrent matters and activities while maintaining a calm presence
  • Willingness to do all aspects of the job (i.e. filing, electronic filing, reviewing correspondence carefully, calendaring)
  • An ability to work well and communicate with different types of people, both internally and externally (clients, staff, and attorneys)
  • Willingness to take on tough assignments and be resourceful
  • An ability and experience keeping their attorney(s) organized, including docketing, drafting, etc.
  • Technology experience – Microsoft Suite, Law firm software a plus
